Betsy and Catherine: An Uncommon Friendship
A Revised and Revisited Edition

Helen Gailey
About the Book
Set in eighteenth-century London, England. This fictional novel touches on the life of the upper crust and those who served them. As they both come together, foolish choices and harrowing consequences take two women—one an aristocrat and the other her servant—into a storm of trial, scorn, and tribulation. Stripped of title, recognition, and value, one wonders who the heroine really is, Catherine or Betsy? Catherine repeatedly asks, “How will Lord Edward find us?” A twisted and perverse judge condemns these two women to the Australian colonies. What is his motivation? Why would he want to hurt two women he’d never seen before? When everything about her life and station no longer has meaning, tears flow for Catherine. What has she done? Her foolishness has bought shame both on herself and her dearest friend, Betsy. How can she go on if they are parted? As Betsy looks back in time, her memories share love, concern, and deep anxiety. As she looks forward, she questions, “Am I worthy of kindness above my station?”

Then and Now
A Series Of Biographical Essays Portraying Changes In Culture Over Nearly A Century

Jo Ellen Oliver
About the Book
Sexual mores have changed drastically in my 84 years of life, as well as attitudes about family life, race and religion. I hope to explore changes in attitudes over my life span. This is not a research paper. I taught freshman English in two universities, where the students were required to document carefully. I don’t want to do that anymore. I may get a date or a name wrong. Some names I changed on purpose, to avoid embarrassing the children or grandchildren of people who behaved badly. Instead of factual research, I want to explore emotions and attitudes as they changed over the years. Why are emotions so important? We have just held a very divisive election. We are divided by politics and social mores. Yes, it is better if our emotions are grounded in actual facts; our recent election proved how dangerous feelings are when fed by lies, so I have tried to be as factual as my memory allows, but in the end, our behavior is shaped by how we feel.
About the Author
Jo Ellen Oliver won a college scholarship for her essay, “Texas City, April 16, 1947,”sparking her interest in writing. She graduated in English education from the University of Texas and earned two masters’ degrees from Auburn University and the University of Georgia in reading education and counseling. She also earned a PhD from the University of Georgia She has had articles in professional journals and has published two books under the pen name of Jillian Wright: The Man Under the Bridge, about homeless people, and Fox Hollow, a mystery-romance. This collection of autobiographical stories is intended to portray changes of attitude over the last century about family, race, and sex.
Oliver is married to Dr. John E. Oliver, a retired professor and veterinary neurologist. They have three children and ten grandchildren. -

Through The Eyes Of Time
Memories of a Soul

Shawna A. Grey M.A.
About the Book
There is a point in time when everyone stops in their daily lives, and wonders what their true purpose in life really is. The materialistic world around them has lost its glamor and they are searching for something, that they can really believe in. They have lost their zest for life and the feeling of loneliness is overwhelming. You are not alone in these feelings. This is the time you start reading books on many subjects, and talking to everyone you know who might have the answer to your questions. Would it surprise you to know that all your answers are within you?
When I was a child I would go to bed and whisper into the darken room “tell me a story. “Then as sleep overtook my young body, my mind opened to pictures and stories of strange worlds and adventures. All my life I have had dreams and visions where I saw myself in another life centuries in the past. In each of these I was given clues as to why I was being shown that particular life. Something in my current life had triggered it because of a similar situation. In the past I had reacted one way and it did not go well, now was I being given a second chance to take a different path? What did it all mean?
It took several years and a lot of research to come up with some answers. From the ancient temples of Atlantis to Egypt where I first met my husband of this lifetime, to the slave cabin in the deep southern states of America, I saw glimpse of my life and what I had learned in those lifetimes. Each life a piece of the puzzle, fitting into the picture of who I am today and what I have yet to accomplish.

Pamela’s introduction into writing began in high school when the English class was challenged to write a biography about a member of their class. Class members were asked to call them up and interview them over the phone and collect interesting details about their
childhood, hobbies, etc.
A week after the biographies were turned in, the teacher announced that she was impressed with many of the biographies but one stood out as the best example of capturing the personality of her subject and also utilizing her apparently natural skills as an interviewer. Her
teacher informed her she should consider using her writing skills in the future. As the years followed, Pamela would find many opportunities to use her writing skills; namely; poetry, skits, newsletters, roadshows and writing new lyrics for existing music for plays and talent shows. She also interviewed interesting people in her Memphis, Tennessee community that were published in local newspapers.
She currently lives in the St. George, Utah area. She is the widow of Kenneth M. Wilkinson, mother of three and grandmother of seven. -
