Betsy and Catherine: An Uncommon Friendship
A Revised and Revisited Edition

Helen Gailey
About the Book
Set in eighteenth-century London, England. This fictional novel touches on the life of the upper crust and those who served them. As they both come together, foolish choices and harrowing consequences take two women—one an aristocrat and the other her servant—into a storm of trial, scorn, and tribulation. Stripped of title, recognition, and value, one wonders who the heroine really is, Catherine or Betsy? Catherine repeatedly asks, “How will Lord Edward find us?” A twisted and perverse judge condemns these two women to the Australian colonies. What is his motivation? Why would he want to hurt two women he’d never seen before? When everything about her life and station no longer has meaning, tears flow for Catherine. What has she done? Her foolishness has bought shame both on herself and her dearest friend, Betsy. How can she go on if they are parted? As Betsy looks back in time, her memories share love, concern, and deep anxiety. As she looks forward, she questions, “Am I worthy of kindness above my station?”

Then and Now
A Series Of Biographical Essays Portraying Changes In Culture Over Nearly A Century

Jo Ellen Oliver
About the Book
Sexual mores have changed drastically in my 84 years of life, as well as attitudes about family life, race and religion. I hope to explore changes in attitudes over my life span. This is not a research paper. I taught freshman English in two universities, where the students were required to document carefully. I don’t want to do that anymore. I may get a date or a name wrong. Some names I changed on purpose, to avoid embarrassing the children or grandchildren of people who behaved badly. Instead of factual research, I want to explore emotions and attitudes as they changed over the years. Why are emotions so important? We have just held a very divisive election. We are divided by politics and social mores. Yes, it is better if our emotions are grounded in actual facts; our recent election proved how dangerous feelings are when fed by lies, so I have tried to be as factual as my memory allows, but in the end, our behavior is shaped by how we feel.
About the Author
Jo Ellen Oliver won a college scholarship for her essay, “Texas City, April 16, 1947,”sparking her interest in writing. She graduated in English education from the University of Texas and earned two masters’ degrees from Auburn University and the University of Georgia in reading education and counseling. She also earned a PhD from the University of Georgia She has had articles in professional journals and has published two books under the pen name of Jillian Wright: The Man Under the Bridge, about homeless people, and Fox Hollow, a mystery-romance. This collection of autobiographical stories is intended to portray changes of attitude over the last century about family, race, and sex.
Oliver is married to Dr. John E. Oliver, a retired professor and veterinary neurologist. They have three children and ten grandchildren. -

Random Thoughts of a Creative Mind
A Life's Journey of the Creative Process

Sue Hassel
About the Book
RANDOM THOUGHTS OF A CREATIVE MIND is a collection of all of Hassel’s writings that have been submitted literally since grade school to present time, including one short story delivered in a big writing class that scandalized some, left others howling with laughter, and the remainder thinking quietly as they left for home. Her take on life is unique having grown up on a farm doing heavy labor with her father on and around heavy equipment. She is quite a horsewoman, and above all, she would say, “What you see is what you get.” Hassel is also a fine painter (see cover art), and a gifted amateur dancer enpointe and modern.
Sue Hassel grew up on a farm in Wisconsin, attended the UW, Madison, and then went to Europe. Her mother Elenora was a homemaker (who designed and sewed clothes for friends and family). Her father, Carl was an oil trucker for 41 years, a natural horseman and very gifted and humane in handling horses and all animals. Both parents had 8th grade educations. Both of their lives exceeded their educational levels. Sue has an older sister, Beverly, former Professor of piano at UW, Oshkosh, who is the real pianist in the family. Sue considers herself the hotdog pianist. She has to have fun playing piano, i.e. the virtuoso repertoire. www.suehassel.comAbout the Author
Sue Hassel grew up on a farm in the Midwest, sang in Europe professionally, later moved to New York City where she continued her operatic career. Her first reviews after making her debut in Ballo in Maschera in the role of Amelia (singing that role four times in five nights) was raved in all local media, and later raved again in Opera News. After her stint in Europe, in New York City she continued that operatic career singing the leading roles in Tosca, Bellini’s Norma, the Trovatore Leonora, Aida, Queen of the Night, Papagena and Philine. She is also an oratorio soloist. You can see by the repertoire, her voice began to shift upward over a three year period, and she is now a soubrette coloratura soprano having great fun singing in recital as Sue Hassel, Soprano & Piano as well as solo piano recitals featuring the music of Busoni, Liszt, Rachmaninoff and Brahms (her hands are big!). It appears that her career is backward, but she is the most pleased with her voice now. She always just knew she was a coloratura soprano and it just took time.
She enjoys a level of local NYC notoriety having been featured both in the New York Times and Wall Street Journal weekend editions as the ‘Soprano on the 59th Street Bridge’, and last October she was followed around by a videographer who heard about her. In time that segment will air online. There appears to be a bootleg video of her playing and singing, as well as dancing enpointe in a tutu online somewhere. Hassel has not seen it. She has a vague memory of having filmed that in the past. Hassel has been known to say, “New York City is the best place to find your dreams and become. -

The Modern-Day Cyrus
2nd Edition

Rev. Robert Antwi
About the Author
During the Exodus from Egypt to the Promised Land, God told the Israelites that the city in which He would place His name should be their center of worship or the economic capital. “But unto the place which the Lord your God shall choose out of all your tribes to put his name there, even unto his habitation shall ye seek and thither thou shall come.”(Deuteronomy 12:5) Around 1000 BC the God of Abraham selected Jerusalem to place His name there and David to rule His people. David became king of ancient Israel when God selected Jerusalem to place His name and made Jerusalem the center of worship {spiritual and economic capital}. “But I have chosen Jerusalem that my name might be there; and have chosen David to be over my people Israel.”(2 Chronicles 6:6) Therefore, God chose Jerusalem to put His name there and David to rule over His people (Israel). The Jew know their history and Jerusalem was proclaimed the capital. On May 14, 1948, Ben-Gurion proclaimed the formation of Israel. Jerusalem is the capital and the largest city in Israel. Tel Aviv is Israel’s economic and technology center. Jerusalem is the capital, but it has limited recognition. International bodies and many countries around the world do not recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel. I believe it is time for the world to recognize Jerusalem as the capital. I believe Donald Trump won the election to declare and recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel. In 538 BC, Crazy he save the Babylonians. I have declared President Donald Trump the modern-day Cyrus. Just as King Cyrus set the Babylonian captivity, Donald Trump is setting Jerusalem free from the slave of unrecognition.

A Patriot’s Letters To AMERICA

Daniel Harmeson
About the Book
The essence of America that which really unites us, is not ethnicity, or nationality, or religion. It is an idea, and what an idea it is- that you can come from humble circumstances and do great things. That it doesn’t matter where you come from but where you are going.
Condoleeza Rice
“Ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country”.
John F. KennedyThese letters to America represent one side of the coin. Belief in small government. Belief in the 8,928 words of the Declaration of Independence, The Constitution and its 27 Amendments. Belief in the Right to pursue happiness. Belief in not relying on big government. Belief in freedoms/ liberties. Belief in America. Hopefully by reading these letters one will begin to, understand a differing value and the great love of this Republic. Or, reinforce that you are not alone in your beliefs. Through understanding, compromise, critical thinking and ownership for our actions, just maybe the great divide can begin to close.
About the Author
Dan is a retired 27 year veteran of the US Navy. Married to a loving wife, Zeny, for 39 years. Has two wonderful children and 4 loving grandchildren. His great love and gratitude to this Republic has inspired him to write letters to America.

My Therapy Journal

Micah Mason
About the Book
It all started when an innocent little Brownie walked to a neighbor’s house to sell Girl Scout calendars. It seemed like an overdone, slobbery kiss as Micah Mason left, but at age seven, she wasn’t really sure. That moment instigated four years of hiding or being caught and molested, and a chronic state of hypervigilance. As the events led Micah into therapy, a counselor suggested she journal as homework.
In a collection of raw, unfiltered poems penned in a therapy journal over several decades, Micah invites others to witness her heartbreaking journey through childhood trauma and therapy into adulthood as she faced life-altering abuse, witnessed its affects on her life, and eventually learned healthy coping skills and self-awareness. Her poems illustrate the ups and downs of life while healing, trust issues with those who failed her, and the power of her faith as it carried her through the most challenging of times.
My Therapy Journal shares a moving compilation of poems that convey the myriad of emotions that accompanied one woman’s journey through childhood trauma, broken trust issues, and eventual healing.About the Author
I am a nurse with a heart for healing. I have writing stories since I was in middle school. I am a crafter of many types: sewing, knitting, crocheting, quilting, painting, drawing, and more.
